Introduction
Methionine selenium is an organic selenium feed additive formed by
the chemical bond between selenium atoms and methionine molecules.
Selenium replaces the sulfur atom position in methionine molecules,
forming a special organic compound. This structure gives selenium
better biological activity and stability, making it easier for
animal organisms to absorb and utilize.
The absorption of methionine selenium in animal intestines is
mainly carried out through the amino acid transport system. Because
its chemical structure is similar to methionine, it can utilize the
absorption pathway of methionine to enter the bloodstream of
animals. . The bioavailability of methionine selenium is relatively
high, usually several times higher than that of inorganic selenium

Functions
1. Antioxidant function: Selenium is an important component of
antioxidant enzymes (such as glutathione peroxidase) in animal
bodies. Methionine selenium can provide selenium elements for these
antioxidant enzymes, enabling them to perform the function of
clearing free radicals in the body. Free radicals are highly
reactive chemicals that can cause damage to the cell membrane, DNA,
and other components of animal cells. Supplementing with methionine
selenium can enhance the antioxidant capacity of animal bodies,
reduce oxidative stress reactions, and thus improve their immunity
and disease resistance
2. Improving meat quality: In livestock and poultry farming,
methionine selenium can improve meat quality. It can reduce fat
oxidation in meat, making the color of meat more vibrant, the taste
better, and extending the shelf life of meat. For example, in pork
farming, adding methionine selenium can reduce the drip loss of
pork and improve its tenderness.
